  • Websitehttp://www.acpl.lib.in.us/
  • Organizational MissionThe Allen County Public Library is a service institution.  It seeks to inform, educate, entertain, and culturally enrich the entire community by providing books and other library materials, facilities, and professional services for free use by all residents.
  • Volunteer Opportunity: The mission of Paws to Read is to improve the literacy skills of children in a unique approach employing a classic concept:  reading to an animal.  A recent study by Intermountain Therapy Animas states that reading to an animal can improve reading scores.  Volunteers will be assigned to a particular agency to meet once a week and children will read to their therapy trained animal.
  • Requirements:  Enjoys children.
  • Training Provided:  All animals must be certified through The Delta Society or Therapy Dogs International.  Volunteers must pass a background check, plus attend a 2 hour training workshop at the library.
  • Time/Duration of Commitment: 1 hour a week. We start with a 6 week commitment, but hopefully it would continue longer than that if all parties agree.
  • Volunteer Locations: varies
