Why Learn United?
United Way believes education is a top priority for a viable, thriving community. To maximize outcomes in education, Learn United utilizes a collective impact model to ensure children succeed from cradle to career.
Learn United is United Way of Allen County’s education initiative and is focused on engaging the community to support children’s success in school and life.
History
United Way of Allen County’s volunteers and donors believe education is a top priority for a viable, thriving community. Since 2008, Learn United efforts have concentrated on increasing the number of local children who read at grade level by the end of third grade. United Way established two specific programs, School Buddies and Real Men Read, to address third grade reading levels by connecting volunteers with elementary students in local public school districts.
Today
Learn United has built on this work and expanded to include a partnership of 11 non-profit agencies that serve area youth. These Learn United Partners are working together to help everyone find their spot to help a child succeed from cradle to career. The Learn United Partners provide opportunities for the public to volunteer with programs that provide mentoring, tutoring, literacy enrichment, homework help and after-school activities.
